Wireless & magnetic faults: buyer questions
Wireless and magnetic chargers that charge slowly, drop out or do not hold the phone.
-
Why does my wireless charger only work when the phone sits in one exact spot?
Wireless chargers need the coil in the phone and the coil in the charger to line up, and the tolerance can be small.
-
Why does my phone vibrate every time it touches the wireless charger?
Many phones vibrate once to confirm that charging has started, which is normal.
-
Why does my phone screen flicker or buzz on a wireless charger?
A faint buzz is often coil or component noise and can be normal, but flicker or loud buzzing points to interference or an unstable link.
-
Why does a phone keep connecting and disconnecting on a wireless pad?
The connection is unstable.
-
Why does a wireless charger stop when a coin or key is nearby?
No, that is usually a safety feature.
-
Why does a phone sit at 1 percent per hour on a weak wireless pad?
Not necessarily.
-
Why does a magnetic charger hold an iPhone but slip with a thick case?
Magnetic force drops quickly with distance.
-
Why does my wireless charger feel hot to the touch?
Some warmth is normal because wireless charging loses part of the energy as heat.
-
Why does my phone charge so slowly on a wireless charger?
Wireless charging is slower than good wired charging, and several things slow it further: a low-power pad, a weak adapter, poor alignment, a thick case, heat and the phone's own limit on wireless power.
-
Why does my wireless charger work for a minute and then stop?
A charger that starts and then stops is usually protecting itself or losing its connection.
-
Why does a wireless charger make a ticking or clicking noise?
Ticking or clicking is often the charger repeatedly starting and stopping because it cannot hold a steady connection.
-
Why does a foldable wireless charger tilt and lose alignment?
A foldable charger has hinges and lightweight parts that can flex, so a phone can shift and move off the coil.
-
Why did wireless charging stop after I added a magnetic ring or card holder?
The ring or card holder is probably blocking or heating the charging field.
-
Why is my wireless charger not working?
Most wireless charger problems come from simple causes: no power or a weak adapter, a bad cable, a phone that is not centred, a case or object in the way, or a phone that is too hot.
-
Why does a wireless charger’s light stay on but the phone does not charge?
A lit indicator only shows that the pad has power, not that it is transferring energy.
-
Why does a charger’s USB-C port cut out when the cable is nudged?
Intermittent charging when the cable moves is a contact problem.
-
Why does a wireless charger work with the case off but not with it on?
Usually the charger is fine.
-
Why won’t the earbud pad on a 3-in-1 charger charge some earbuds?
The earbud case must support Qi wireless charging, sit centred with its charging side down, and fit the pad. Some cases have the coil off-centre or need the lid closed. Thick case covers and weak adapters also stop charging.
-
Why doesn’t a Pixel phone charge well on our magnetic wireless charger?
Most Pixel phones support Qi but don't have built-in magnets, so they don't snap into place and can slip off-centre. Newer models may support Qi2. Check the phone's Qi support, alignment, cases and the charger's input power.
-
Why does a foldable 3-in-1 charger stop charging one device?
Often it's placement, a case, a weak adapter, or power sharing. If one pad never works or cuts out when the panel moves, the hinge wiring or that pad's coil may be faulty.
-
Why do RGB lights on a wireless charger flicker?
Brief flicker when a phone is placed or removed is often normal, because the charger adjusts power. Continuous flicker usually points to a weak adapter, a loose cable, a lighting mode, or a fault. Test with the recommended adapter before replacing.
-
Why does a phone vibrate off the wireless stand?
Notification vibrations can slowly walk a phone off a non-magnetic stand or pad. Charging then stops. Magnetic alignment, a grippy surface, a lower vibration setting or Do Not Disturb at night solve most cases.
-
Why does a magnetic charger not hold the phone?
The phone needs a magnet ring, built in (MagSafe iPhones, some Qi2 phones) or added through a magnetic case or ring. Thick or non-magnetic cases, debris and misalignment also weaken the hold.
-
Why do AirPods not charge on a wireless pad or 3-in-1?
Check whether the case supports wireless charging, where the coil sits, and whether the light shows. Apple's light behaviour can make a working charger look idle.
-
Why does a wireless charger’s indicator light blink?
A blinking light usually signals a condition the charger has detected: foreign object, misalignment, insufficient input power or overheating. The manual decodes the pattern.
-
Why does an Apple Watch not charge on our 3-in-1 stand?
Apple Watch doesn't charge on standard Qi. It needs a compatible watch charging module, the right orientation and an adapter that powers all three positions.
-
Why does a phone charge slowly or stop on a 3-in-1 wireless charger when it has a case on?
Thick cases, metal parts, cards and poor alignment all increase the distance or interference between the coils. Heat-based throttling and an underpowered adapter are the other usual causes.
