Why does a phone keep connecting and disconnecting on a wireless pad?
The connection is unstable.

My phone keeps starting and stopping charging on the wireless pad. Why?
Short answer: The connection is unstable. Common causes are poor alignment, a thick or metal-containing case, a nearby metal object, a weak adapter or cable, vibration, and heat that makes the pad or phone pause charging. Centre the phone, remove the case and any metal, use the recommended adapter, and try on a stable surface.
What is going on
Wireless charging needs the coils of the pad and the phone to line up and stay close. If the link weakens, the pad stops, then restarts, and you see repeated chimes or on-and-off charging.
Likely causes
- Misalignment. The phone sits slightly off the coil, or slips.
- Case or accessories. A thick case, a metal plate, a card, a ring or a pop-up grip.
- Metal objects nearby. Coins, keys or foil can trigger the protection.
- Weak power supply. An underpowered adapter or cable makes the pad unstable.
- Vibration. On a car mount or a table that is moved or touched, the phone shifts.
- Heat. A warm phone or pad reduces power or pauses charging.
- Notifications. Vibration alerts can move the phone slightly on a smooth pad.
- Software or settings. Some phones pause charging for battery care.
- A faulty pad. Poor design or damaged coil.
What to try
- Remove the case and accessories.
- Centre the phone on the pad, and watch for the charging indicator.
- Turn on do-not-disturb to prevent vibration.
- Use the recommended adapter and cable.
- Move the pad to a flat, stable surface, away from metal and heat.
- Let the phone cool, then try again.
- Test another pad, or another phone on this pad.
Reading the result
- If it works without the case, the case is the problem.
- If another phone works, check the phone’s settings.
- If another pad works, replace the first pad.
A note on the car
In a vehicle, bumps and heat are the main problem. Use a mount that holds the phone firmly in place and has good ventilation.
For brands
Use non-slip surfaces and alignment guides, and test with common cases and in typical conditions.
Quick summary
Check alignment, case, power supply and heat, and compare with another pad and phone.
Quick test log
Write down the case, adapter, surface, room temperature and how often charging stops over ten minutes. Change one thing at a time and repeat. The log shows which change fixes it, and gives the seller what is needed if the pad has to be replaced.
