What charger do exhibition stands need for staff phones and demo tablets?
The question

We are exhibiting at a three-day show with ten staff and six demo tablets. What chargers and power should we plan for?

Main answer · Wecent Editorial Team

Short answer: Plan a central, tidy charging point for staff phones plus individual power for demo tablets that must stay on all day. Order power from the venue early, bring more ports than you think you need and tether or lock cables on the demo units. Everything should be fast, labelled and easy to swap.

Two different needs

Staff phones need a quick top-up during breaks. Demo tablets need steady power all day so they never run out in front of a visitor. Plan them separately.

Order power early

Exhibition venues sell power by the connection and amount, and orders close before the show. Tell the organiser how many sockets you need and where, and ask about extension rules. Count everything: lights, screens, chargers and any equipment you will run.

Staff charging point

  • A multi-port charger with several fast USB-C ports on a back table.
  • Cables labelled by owner or by device type.
  • A short sign so staff know where to charge and how long to leave phones.
  • A lockable drawer or box if staff want to leave phones during a demo.

Demo tablets

  • Keep each tablet on its own charger so they all stay topped up.
  • Use cable locks or tethers so cables cannot be pulled out or taken.
  • Route cables through the stand so they are not a trip hazard.
  • Consider kiosk stands with built-in charging.

What to bring

  1. More ports than devices, because some will fail.
  2. Spare cables in the same connector types.
  3. A power strip with surge protection if the venue allows it.
  4. Cable ties, tape and a small cable cover for floor runs.
  5. A few power banks as a backup if power drops.

Rules and safety

Follow the venue’s rules on power strips and cable runs. Use equipment with safety markings, and unplug and stow chargers overnight if the venue asks.

Test at set-up

Charge every device at the stand the day before opening. Check that cables reach, outlets work and nothing overheats. Fix problems before visitors arrive.

Pack down

Count chargers and cables as they come off the stand. Small items vanish quickly in the rush to leave.

Three more perspectives

Wecent Editorial Team · Purchasing perspective

Order venue power with margin and bring a few spare chargers. A broken charger on day two is a minor cost compared with a dead demo.

Wecent Editorial Team · Compliance/QC perspective

Check the venue’s rules for extension leads and surge strips before you ship equipment.

Wecent Editorial Team · After-sales perspective

Make one person responsible for charging checks at opening, lunch and close. It prevents most demo failures.
