How should we store wireless chargers with magnets near other stock?

Keep magnetic chargers in their boxes, away from items that magnets can affect, such as cards with magnetic stripes, some sensors and loose metal parts. Avoid stacking them face to face and keep the area clean of metal debris.

How should we store wireless chargers with magnets near other stock?
The question

Our warehouse stores magnetic wireless chargers next to other electronics and accessories. Do the magnets cause any problems in storage?

Main answer · Wecent Editorial Team

Short answer: Generally not if they stay in their retail boxes, which keep magnets at a distance from other items. Problems arise with loose units: they attract metal debris and screws, stick together and scratch, and can affect items like cards with magnetic stripes. Keep units boxed, store them away from loose metal parts and magnetic-stripe items, and keep shelves clean. Check debris before packing returned or display units.

Why magnets matter

Magnetic wireless chargers contain a ring of magnets to align phones. These magnets are strong at close range but their field drops quickly with distance. Retail packaging usually provides enough distance for normal storage.

Keep units boxed

Store chargers in their boxes until shipping. Loose units attract metal particles, screws and clips, and stick to each other or to metal shelves.

Separate from sensitive items

  • Cards with magnetic stripes, such as hotel keys or older gift cards.
  • Some compasses and sensors.
  • Small loose metal parts.

Most modern electronics in boxes aren’t affected, but keep loose magnetic chargers away from small sensitive components.

Metal debris

Warehouses with cutting or assembly work have metal dust. Keep magnetic products in closed boxes and clean shelves regularly. Check display and returned units for debris before repacking.

Handling

Staff handling loose units should avoid placing them on metal surfaces or near tools. Don’t stack loose units face to face.

Shipping

Magnetic accessories ship like other consumer products in their boxes. Air cargo has rules for strongly magnetised materials, but typical phone accessories in retail boxes are usually below thresholds. Check with your forwarder if unsure.

Stock rotation and labelling

Label shelves for magnetic products so new staff know to handle them differently. Rotate stock first-in, first-out as usual; magnets don’t weaken meaningfully in normal storage periods.

Display units

Shop display units are exposed and collect debris quickly. Clean them daily with tape and a dry cloth, and keep them away from key racks and metal fixtures.

Returns area

Returned magnetic chargers often arrive unboxed. Place them in bags or boxes immediately and clean them before inspection.

What to tell warehouse staff

“Keep magnetic chargers boxed, away from loose metal parts and cards. Clean any returned units with tape before repacking.”

Three more perspectives

Wecent Editorial Team · Purchasing perspective

Ask Wecent whether the retail box includes a protective film or spacer for the magnetic surface.

Wecent Editorial Team · Compliance/QC perspective

Include a debris check on magnetic surfaces in outgoing inspection, especially for repacked returns.

Wecent Editorial Team · After-sales perspective

Scratches on phones from debris on a “new” charger cause strong complaints. Prevention in the warehouse matters.
