How should magnetic power banks be cleaned around the magnet ring?
Unplug it and let it cool, then wipe the surface with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth and dry it straight away.

The magnet ring on my power bank collects lint and dirt. How do I clean it safely?
Short answer: Unplug it and let it cool, then wipe the surface with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth and dry it straight away. Use a soft brush or tape for lint and dust. Avoid soaking the unit, avoid strong solvents and do not scrape the surface. Keep liquid away from ports and seams.
Before you clean
Disconnect all cables and phones, switch the power bank off and let it come to room temperature. Do not clean a power bank that is hot or damaged.
What you will need
- A soft, lint-free cloth.
- A small soft brush, such as a clean makeup brush.
- Clear adhesive tape, for lifting fine dust.
- A little water, or a mild cleaner suited to electronics.
Step by step
- Brush loose dust and lint from the ring and the surface.
- Press tape lightly on the ring and lift to remove fine particles.
- Dampen the cloth slightly, never wet, and wipe the surface.
- Wipe around the ring edge gently with the cloth wrapped around a fingertip.
- Dry with a clean dry cloth.
- Leave it for a few minutes before use.
What to avoid
- Soaking or running water over the unit.
- Spray cleaners directly on the power bank.
- Strong solvents or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the finish and printing.
- Sharp tools to scrape residue.
- Heat guns or hair dryers to dry it quickly.
- Getting liquid into ports, buttons or seams.
Sticky residue
For sticky marks, use a cloth with a very small amount of mild cleaner, wipe gently and dry. Test on a hidden spot first.
Prevent build-up
Keep the power bank in a clean pouch, away from loose coins and keys, and wipe the ring every few weeks. Magnets attract steel dust and metal fragments, so be careful in workshops.
Check for damage
While cleaning, look for dents, swelling and cracks. If you see any, stop using the power bank and follow the maker’s advice for safe disposal.
Quick summary
Dry first, damp wipe second, no soaking, no solvents and no scraping.
When to clean and when to replace
Clean only if the unit is intact. If the ring is peeling, the surface is cracked or the power bank is swollen, dirt is not the issue. Stop using it, and recycle it through a suitable collection point. A worn magnet ring that no longer holds the phone is also a reason to replace the product.
