How do we plan a launch that needs both a charger and a matching cable?
Treat the cable as a product with its own specification, samples, documents and stock plan. Align sample approval, packaging, inspection and shipping for both, and test them together before launch.

We’re launching a 100W charger with a matching coloured 5A cable, sold together and separately. How should we plan the launch?
Short answer: Run them as two linked products. Specify the cable fully (connectors, length, 5A e-marker, colour, materials), sample and approve both together, match colours under the same light, prepare documents for each, plan packaging for the bundle and the separate cable, set stock ratios for bundle and standalone sales, inspect both at shipment, and test the pair on target laptops before launch.
Specification
Write separate specifications for charger and cable. For the cable: connectors, length, 5A e-marker, EPR if needed, data speed, jacket material, colour code and connector finish.
Colour matching
Charger plastic and cable jacket are different materials and may look different under different lights. Approve both colours together using the same light source and a reference plaque.
Samples and approval
Approve the charger and cable samples together. Test the pair on target laptops to confirm full power. Keep a golden sample of each.
Documents
- Charger: safety, EMC, efficiency, RoHS/REACH, DoC.
- Cable: RoHS/REACH evidence for materials, any certification records, test data for the 5A rating.
Packaging
Plan two packaging formats: the bundle box and the standalone cable pack. Both need the required information. The bundle box should state the cable’s rating clearly.
Stock ratios
Estimate how many cables sell in bundles versus standalone. Cables often sell as add-ons or replacements. Plan cable stock above the bundle quantity.
Timeline
Cables may come from a different production line or supplier. Align timelines so cables are ready when chargers are. A missing cable delays the whole bundle.
Inspection
Inspect both: charger checks plus cable e-marker, length and colour checks. Test pairs on a laptop during inspection.
Testing together
Before launch, test five or more charger and cable pairs from production on the laptops your customers use. Check power level, connector fit and heat after an hour of charging. Problems found here are far cheaper to fix than after the first reviews.
Support content
Prepare a short FAQ explaining why the 5A cable matters and how to check that the laptop receives full power. It helps both bundle buyers and customers who buy the cable separately.
Listings
Create linked listings: bundle and standalone cable, with consistent specifications and photos.
What to confirm with Wecent
Ask whether the cable is made in-house or sourced, its MOQ per colour, documents available and lead time.
Where this answer says confirm with Wecent, the detail is not published on the product page and has to come from the datasheet or the factory. General facts come from the standards bodies, regulators or device makers named in the text.
