Travel Wireless Charger

A travel wireless charger has to fold flat, survive a bag and work in a room with one free socket. WECENT builds foldable Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible 15W units, quoted with the plug kit your markets need, from 200 pcs per model.

At a glance

Folded thickness matters more than the open dimensions, because the carton is built around the packed product and the carton dimension is what freight is charged on. The hinge is the other variable — it has to fold flat and still hold the phone at an angle, and that is decided at the sample stage.

Why it matters

Travel changes the specification, not just the packaging

A travel charger is judged in a hotel room: one socket, a small bedside table and no patience for alignment. That makes three requirements non-negotiable. It has to fold to a flat pack so it does not consume half a carry-on. It has to work on a 100–240 V supply, because the same SKU usually ships to several regions. And it has to align the phone without the user thinking about it, because a magnetic pad that snaps into place is the difference between a product that gets used and one that stays in the bag.

The folding hinge is where the engineering goes. A hinge that folds flat also has to hold the phone at an angle when it is open, which means the hinge tension, the base mass and the coil position are all decided together — and it is the part of a travel unit most likely to fail in the field, which is why it is inspected and aged rather than sampled.

  • Flat pack. Folded thickness drives the carton size, and the carton size drives the freight on a container order.
  • Multi-region input. One SKU with a plug kit serves several markets; a fixed plug does not.
  • Magnetic alignment. In a dim hotel room, snapping into place beats hunting for the coil centre.
Trade-offs

Travel wireless charger or a travel GaN adapter?

Both are sold as travel chargers and they solve different halves of the problem. A wireless travel unit removes the cables and the alignment question, but the phone has to sit on it. A travel GaN adapter with an EU/UK/US/AUS plug kit charges the laptop as well, over a cable, at 45W to 100W. Most travel programmes end up quoting both, and the split is whatever the customer carries: a phone-only traveller takes the wireless unit, a laptop traveller takes the adapter.

Production

How a travel wireless charger is built and checked

A travel unit is folded and unfolded more than any other format, so the hinge and the panel tolerances are inspected at every round rather than only at final inspection.

01

Material preparation and checking

The folding panels, hinge, coil, magnet array, plug kit and travel pouch are checked against the approved bill of materials before a travel unit enters the line.

02

First-piece quality confirmation

The first travel charger of a run is folded and unfolded through its full travel before the line continues, because the hinge is the part most likely to fail in a bag.

03

Assembly on static-protected lines

Boards are assembled on static-protected lines, with the hinge fitted, tensioned and measured at its own station rather than after the panels are closed.

04

Visual inspection rounds

Repeat inspections cover hinge travel, panel alignment, coil seating, magnet placement and the cosmetic condition of the folded faces.

05

Aging under load and electrical testing

Every unit runs an aging cycle under load in its folded state as well as open, and is re-measured afterwards, so a hinge or thermal problem surfaces in the factory.

06

Charging and protocol verification

Output voltage and current are measured on the phone coil, and the supplied plug kit and adapter are checked against the markets the SKU was specified for.

07

QA sampling, packing and shipment inspection

Sampling runs before packing, the pouch, box and insert are checked against the approved artwork, and the batch report keeps the travel programme traceable per plug kit.

The hinge is the part of a travel unit most likely to fail in the field, so it is inspected visually at every round and the folded unit is aged under load before it is packed.

FAQs

Travel wireless charger — FAQs

How flat does a travel wireless charger fold?

The folded thickness is set by the hinge and the panel design, and it is stated per model on the datasheet. It matters because the folded size drives the carton dimension, and the carton dimension drives the freight on a container order.

Will it work in Europe and the US?

Yes, when it is quoted with a plug kit. A universal-input adapter with EU, UK, US and AUS plugs lets one SKU serve several regions, which is how most travel programmes are specified.

Does it charge a laptop?

No — a wireless unit charges a phone, watch and earbuds. If the customer travels with a laptop, the wired GaN travel adapter is the right product, and most programmes quote both.

Is the hinge the weak point?

Mechanically it is the part most likely to fail in the field, which is why it is inspected visually and units run an aging cycle under load before shipment rather than being sampled only at the end.

Does it come with a case?

It can ship unit-only or bundled with a travel pouch or case. The bundle changes the carton configuration, so it is quoted with the packaging.

What is the minimum order?

200 pcs per model for a branded travel unit. A trial quantity is often split across two plug kits or two panel colours, because those are the two variables a travel SKU is bought on.

How fast are samples?

2–3 days with your logo and finish applied, and mass production 7–15 days after sample and artwork approval.

Which certifications apply?

CE, RoHS, FCC, UKCA, PSE, KC, SAA and CB reports depending on the target market, with ErP efficiency documentation for the supplied adapter.

Can the same SKU ship to several markets?

That is the point of the plug kit. It reduces the number of SKUs you have to hold while still meeting each market’s plug standard — the trade-off is documented in the plug strategy note.

What is the warranty?

Two years on the unit and on the supplied adapter. A travel product is handled more than a desk product, so the hinge and the folding panels are inside the same terms as the electronics, and a recurring hinge failure is visible in the batch record rather than as isolated replacements.

What is the best wireless charger for travel?

The one that folds flat, so it does not take up half the bag. After that, magnetic alignment matters more in a hotel room than anywhere else — you are placing the phone in the dark and expect it to work the first time. Fixed plugs and adapters are the third factor, because one socket is usually all you get.

Can I bring a wireless charger through TSA?

Yes. A wireless charging pad or folding stand is ordinary carry-on electronics. The item to keep in mind is a charging power bank, which has capacity limits and must travel in the cabin rather than in checked luggage — that applies to magnetic battery packs, not to pads.

What is a good portable charger with wireless charging?

For a bag, a folding multi-device unit covers a phone, watch and earbuds from one socket; for a pocket, a magnetic battery pack does the job. Which one is right depends on whether the traveller is charging in a room or while moving, and the two products are specified very differently.

Travel wireless chargers in more detail — folding, plugs and travel retail Know more Know less

What makes a wireless charger travel-friendly

Three things: it folds flat, it works from a universal-input adapter, and it aligns the phone without the user thinking about it. A hotel room usually offers one free socket and a small bedside surface, which is where a folding stand or a magnetic pad behaves very differently from a desk unit.

The folded thickness matters more than the open dimensions, because the carton is built around the packed product — and the carton dimension is what freight is charged on.

Travel wireless chargers and plug adapters

The charger is the low-voltage side; the plug is what changes between markets. A universal-input adapter with an EU, UK, US and AUS plug kit lets one SKU serve several regions, which reduces the number of lines a distributor has to hold.

Where a channel wants a single fixed plug, that is quoted per market instead. The trade-off is SKU count against unit price, and the arithmetic usually favours the kit once three or more markets are involved.

Folding travel chargers for retail and gifting

Travel retail and corporate gifting both reward a product that packs small, opens without instructions and carries a large print area. A folding 3-in-1 or a folding magnetic pad does all three, and both can ship with a pouch or case as a set.

Certification is prepared from the first sample, and because the set includes an adapter the ErP efficiency documentation travels with it.
