How should a brand check that its lab or certification body is still FCC-recognised before booking?
Search for the lab in the FCC's public test firm search, confirm its status and that its accreditation covers the rule parts you need, and ask your certification body to confirm the same.

We plan to book a lab for FCC testing on a wireless charger. How do we check that the lab is currently recognised by the FCC?
Short answer: Search for the lab in the FCC’s public test firm search, confirm its status and that its accreditation covers the rule parts you need, and ask your certification body to confirm the same. Recognition matters when the product needs FCC certification, but not for products that qualify for supplier’s declaration, which can use any competent lab.
Why checking matters
If a product needs FCC certification, the testing must be done by a laboratory the FCC recognises, and the approval is issued by a telecommunication certification body. Using a lab that is not recognised, or not recognised for the right scope, can mean the test results are not accepted and the work must be repeated.
Where to check
The FCC provides a public test firm search that lists labs that are authorised to perform compliance testing. It also offers a downloadable list of currently recognised accredited test firms. The FCC’s equipment authorisation pages explain the process, and the FCC’s testing laboratory qualifications page describes what labs need.
What to confirm
- The lab’s name and location match the lab that will do your testing.
- Its status is current, and the accreditation has not lapsed.
- The scope covers the measurement methods you need, such as radio tests for a wireless charger.
- The lab has experience with chargers of your type.
Certification and declaration
Many chargers fall under supplier’s declaration of conformity for unintentional radiators, where testing can be done by a competent lab. A wireless charger that transmits intentionally is more likely to need certification. Ask a specialist which route your product follows.
Ask your certification body
Your certification body usually checks the lab’s status before accepting data. Ask them to confirm in writing and to tell you early if a problem appears.
Do not rely on the old list
The old registration-based list of test firms ended in 2017, so do not rely on older lists or lab brochures. Use the current search.
Keep the evidence
Save a screenshot or download of the lab’s status with the date, and add it to the compliance file along with the report.
Quick summary
Use the FCC’s current search, confirm status and scope, and have your certification body confirm in writing. Save the evidence with the date. It takes minutes and prevents repeated testing.
