What do Amazon and big retailers ask for when listing chargers?
The question

We’re preparing to list our charger range on Amazon in the EU and US and with a large electronics retailer. What documents should we have ready?

Main answer · Wecent Editorial Team

Short answer: Prepare per market: safety and EMC test reports covering your model, the EU DoC (or UK equivalent), FCC information for the US, photos of labels and packaging, manuals in required languages, RoHS and REACH documentation, GPSR details for the EU (manufacturer, responsible person, contact), and battery documents for power banks. Exact lists vary by marketplace and change, so check each platform’s current requirements.

Common requests

  • Test reports: electrical safety (e.g. IEC/EN 62368-1), EMC, radio for wireless chargers; showing your model.
  • Certificates: where applicable, such as a CB certificate or national certificates.
  • Declaration of Conformity: EU DoC naming your company and model; UK DoC for the UK.
  • US: FCC equipment authorisation or supplier’s declaration of conformity, as applicable; some retailers ask for NRTL certification (e.g. UL listing) for mains-powered products.
  • Labels and packaging: photos showing markings, ratings, brand and traceability information.
  • Manuals: with safety information in the right languages.
  • Chemicals: RoHS and REACH documents.
  • Batteries: UN38.3, SDS and battery details for power banks.

EU-specific: GPSR

Since GPSR applies from 13 December 2024, online marketplaces must show manufacturer details, an EU responsible person where relevant, product identification, warnings and safety information in listings. Prepare these details for each product.

Make documents match

The most common reason for rejection is mismatch: the report lists the factory’s model, the listing shows your model. Ensure model numbers, company names and ratings match across reports, DoC, labels and listing.

Organise a document pack

  1. One folder per model and market.
  2. File names with model, document type and date.
  3. A summary sheet listing all documents and their validity.

UK

For the UK, retailers and marketplaces usually ask for UKCA or CE marking evidence under the UK’s current rules and a UK-based contact or importer. Check the current position for your products.

Product images

Some platforms check product images for safety marks, ratings and warnings. Use clear photos of the actual label, and make sure marketing images don’t show marks the product doesn’t carry.

Retailers

Large retailers may have their own supplier manuals, factory audit requirements, packaging rules and testing. Ask for their supplier requirements early.

Requirements change

Marketplace and retailer requirements change frequently and differ between country sites. Check each platform’s current help pages before listing.

Confirm with Wecent which reports cover your branded model numbers and whether brand-specific report versions are available.

Where this answer says confirm with Wecent, the detail is not published on the product page and has to come from the datasheet or the factory. General facts come from the standards bodies, regulators or device makers named in the text.

Three more perspectives

Wecent Editorial Team · Purchasing perspective

Ask for all listing documents before final payment. Documents arriving after goods have shipped delay sales.

Wecent Editorial Team · Compliance/QC perspective

Keep a document validity calendar. Expired reports or outdated standard editions trigger re-verification requests.

Wecent Editorial Team · After-sales perspective

Marketplaces sometimes request documents after a customer complaint. A ready pack lets you respond within the deadline.
