20W Charger
A 20W GaN wall charger delivers the full 20W to any USB-C phone, over a cable, with no alignment or case questions. WECENT builds 18W, 20W and 30W platforms with EU / UK / US / AUS plugs, from 200 pcs per model.
Band selection is the whole decision. A phone that negotiates inside 20W gets the same charge from a 30W unit at a higher unit cost, and a fleet that includes a tablet or a thin-and-light laptop needs 45W before the product does anything new. The device list settles the band, not the price list.

Why 20W is the number most phone programmes land on
A 20W charger sits at the point where a phone stops asking for more. Most phones negotiate their peak rate within that band, so a 20W supply delivers a full-rate charge without the size, heat and cost of a laptop-class adapter. That makes it the default for in-box accessories, retail SKUs and corporate gifts where the product has to be small and cheap but still feel fast.
The GaN part matters more at higher wattages, where a smaller switching platform is what keeps the housing pocketable. At 20W the benefit is mostly thermal and packaging: the platform runs cooler than an equivalent silicon design, which is why a 20W GaN unit can be built small enough to travel and still pass the aging test without derating.
- Right-sized. Full-rate charging for a phone without the size and cost of a laptop adapter.
- One SKU, several markets. Quoted with an EU / UK / US / AUS plug kit so the same product serves multiple regions.
- No alignment questions. A cable charges any USB-C phone, whatever case it is in.
20W, 45W or 65W?
The bands map onto devices rather than preferences. 20W covers a phone comfortably. 45W adds tablets and thin-and-light laptops on a single port. 65W and above is where a laptop and a phone can share one charger, and where GaN stops being a marketing word and starts being the reason the product fits in a bag.
| What you are choosing | 20W | 45W / 65W |
|---|---|---|
| Devices covered | Any USB-C phone | Phone plus tablet, or a thin-and-light laptop |
| Typical channel | In-box accessory, retail, gifting | Travel retail, laptop accessory, multi-device desks |
| Size and cost | Smallest and cheapest | Larger and more expensive to build |
| Port layout | Single port, or 1A1C | 1A1C to 2A3C depending on the model |
The full platform list by wattage is on the chargers page, and the band selection is covered in the wattage guide.

20W and neighbouring platforms

How a 20W charger is built and checked
At 20W the aging gate is where a cheap platform gives itself away: the unit is run under load and re-measured, so a design that derates under sustained load is caught here rather than in a customer’s bag.
Material preparation and checking
The GaN switches, transformer, capacitors, controller, plug assembly and shell are checked against the approved bill of materials before a 20W charger reaches the line.
First-piece quality confirmation
The first unit of a run is built and load-tested against the specification before the line continues, which is where a cheap platform gives itself away early.
Assembly on static-protected lines
Boards are assembled on static-protected lines to a written operation sheet, with the plug assembly fitted and checked at its own station.
Visual inspection rounds
Repeat inspections verify solder joints, component placement, screw torque, plug fit and the cosmetic condition of the shell and markings.
Aging under load and electrical testing
Every unit runs an aging cycle under load and is re-measured afterwards, so a design that derates under sustained load is caught in the factory rather than in a customer’s bag.
Charging and protocol verification
Output voltage and current are measured across the port, including PPS ranges, with handshake checks for PD 2.0/3.0, QC 2.0/3.0, AFC, FCP, Apple 2.4A and BC1.2.
QA sampling, packing and shipment inspection
Sampling runs before packing, the plug, label, manual and retail box are checked against the approved artwork, and the batch report keeps the shipment traceable.

20W charger — FAQs
Is 20W enough to fast-charge a phone?
For most phones, yes — the peak rate they negotiate sits inside that band. A phone that asks for more will charge at its own maximum on a 20W supply, just not at the higher rate a 25W or 30W unit would allow. The device list settles it.
Why GaN at 20W?
At 20W the GaN benefit is mostly thermal and packaging rather than size at the top end: the platform runs cooler, which lets the housing stay small enough to travel with and still pass aging without derating.
Can one SKU cover the EU, UK, US and Australia?
Yes, with an interchangeable plug kit. Where a channel wants a single fixed plug, that is quoted separately — the trade-off is documented in the plug strategy note.
Should we sell a 20W wired charger or a 15W wireless pad?
They answer different briefs. The wired charger is cheaper, charges any USB-C phone and travels better; the wireless pad is the premium-feeling gift. Many ranges carry both, and the wireless option costs more because of the coil, magnet array and shielding.
What is the minimum order?
200 pcs per model for a branded 20W charger, and the trial quantity can be split across two plug configurations or two port layouts. Print plates and tooling, where they are needed, are quoted on a separate line.
How fast are samples?
2–3 days with your logo and finish applied, and mass production 7–15 days after sample and artwork approval.
Which protocols are supported?
PD 2.0/3.0 and QC 2.0/3.0, with PPS ranges, AFC, FCP, Apple 2.4A and BC1.2 verified per family and stated on the model datasheet.
Which certifications apply?
CE, RoHS, FCC, UKCA, PSE, KC, SAA and CB reports depending on the target market, with ErP efficiency documentation for the external power supply.
Can the 1A1C layout share 20W between two devices?
Yes — the layout and the shared budget are specified together, and the per-port behaviour is stated on the datasheet rather than left to the customer to discover.
What is the warranty?
Two years on the adapter, with a 24-hour first response and batch traceability. At this band the common field issue is a failed cable or a damaged port rather than the power stage, which is why the complaint record separates the two before a corrective action is written.
Is 20W considered a fast charger?
Yes, for a phone. Most phones negotiate their peak rate inside the 20W band, which is why it is the default rating for in-box accessories and retail SKUs. The label matters less than the protocol behind it: a 20W unit supporting PD and the vendor’s own profile will charge faster than a nominally identical one that does not.
What is a 20W charger good for?
A phone, every day, plus earbuds or a small accessory on a second port. It is small enough to leave in a bag and cheap enough to ship in a box, which is why it dominates accessory retail. What it will not do comfortably is charge a laptop, and a 45W or 65W unit is the answer there.
Is a 20W or 30W charger faster?
Only for devices that ask for more than 20W. If the phone negotiates inside the 20W band, a 30W charger delivers exactly the same charge and costs more to make. The device list, not the price list, decides the band — that is the whole selection rule.

What a 20W charger charges
A 20W USB-C charger covers a phone at its peak rate, plus earbuds or a small accessory on a second port where the model carries one. It is small enough to leave in a bag and cheap enough to ship in a box, which is why it is the default rating for in-box accessories and retail SKUs.
What it will not do comfortably is charge a laptop. That is the 45W and 65W bands, and the difference is a different platform rather than a bigger version of the same one.
20W, 30W or 65W — which band to specify
The band follows the devices, not the price list. If a phone negotiates inside 20W, a 30W charger delivers exactly the same charge for a higher unit cost. If the fleet includes a tablet or a thin-and-light laptop, the 45W band is the first one that changes what the product can do.
For a range, the useful pattern is one platform family across two or three bands: the electronics stay related, the tooling is shared, and the range reads as one product line.
USB-C PD, fast charging and the terms on the label
Two chargers can carry the same wattage label and charge the same phone at different rates, because the negotiated band depends on the protocols the unit supports. USB-C Power Delivery is the one that matters for most current phones, alongside the vendor fast-charge profiles.
Our platforms are tested per family for PD, QC, PPS ranges, AFC, FCP, Apple 2.4A and BC1.2, and the result is stated on the datasheet rather than generalised across a range.
Wholesale and OEM 20W chargers
A branded 20W charger starts at 200 pcs per model, quoted with a fixed plug or an EU/UK/US/AUS kit. The trial quantity can be split across two plug configurations or two port layouts, which is how most ranges begin.
Certification is prepared per destination with ErP efficiency documentation for the adapter itself, because at this band the efficiency file is what a retailer asks for before listing.
