Two factories answered the capacity question in the same week. One sent a floor plan, a machine list and photographs; the other named the line, the shift pattern, the units per shift for the configuration and the months already committed. …
A manufacturing lead time is a claim like any other, and the way to verify it is not to ask again. It is to ask which of its five parts has been booked. A slot that is estimated, materials that …
A brand planned around a thirty-day production lead time and discovered that the magnetic components carried a forty-five day lead of their own. The production time had been quoted correctly; the calendar had been built from the wrong number, and …
Lead time is not one number. It is a chain of steps, some of which are fixed by physics and some of which are queues, and the chain is shortened at the front rather than at the end. A programme …
Three levels of customisation are usually described with the same word, and the cost difference between them is a fixed-charge difference rather than a material one. A branded platform build and a new enclosure can carry the same electronics and …
Two programmes accepted quotations on the same day. One invoice matched its quotation to within a rounding item; the other came in nine per cent higher. The difference was not the supplier's honesty but whether the quotation had stated its …
A supplier's production cost looked eight per cent lower than a competitor's until the aging step appeared. The cheaper quote had excluded burn-in from the station time and assumed a first-pass yield the process had never measured. Both figures were …
A bulk price is not a discount on a small-order price. It is a different arithmetic: the fixed charges stop being per-unit and become per-programme, and what remains per-unit is the material and the station time. Reading the change that …
Two quotations differed by nine per cent on the unit price and by two per cent on landed cost. The freight explained it: the cheaper unit packed into a carton that loaded fewer units per container, and the difference in …
A cost breakdown was rejected by the buyer because the material line was higher than a competitor's. The competitor's breakdown, produced three months later, showed the same materials and a yield figure that had been omitted. The rejection had been …
Two per-unit prices were quoted for the same charger at the same quantity, and they differed by eighteen per cent. One included the accessory cable and a two-language carton; the other quoted the charger alone with a single-language carton and …
Two tooling quotations came in nine thousand apart for the same enclosure. One covered the mould, the first trial and the gauges; the other covered the mould and left the trials, the fixture and the packaging plate to a later …
