Magnetic Wireless Charger
A magnetic charger holds the phone in the coil sweet spot instead of asking the customer to find it. WECENT builds Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible 15W magnetic platforms — pads, stands, 3-in-1 boards and power banks — from 200 pcs per model.
The question underneath a magnetic charger is whether the target phones carry a magnet ring. The iPhone 12 generation onwards does, and Qi2 gives Android the same reference. Without a ring the phone still charges but has to be placed by hand, which is why magnetic and free-position SKUs usually sit in the same range.

Alignment is the difference between 15W and a slow trickle
Wireless charging is a tolerance problem disguised as a convenience feature. A phone placed a few millimetres off the coil centre still receives power, but the coupling drops, the unit compensates with heat, and the phone throttles its own charging to protect itself. From the customer’s side that reads as “wireless charging is slow” — the coil was never the problem.
A magnet array fixes the tolerance mechanically: the phone snaps to the coil centre every time, so the rated rate is what the customer actually gets. On a Qi2 or MagSafe-compatible platform that also unlocks the higher profile the phone already supports, which is why magnetic units feel faster than free-position pads even when both are labelled the same way.
- Magnet grade and array. Hold force decides whether the phone stays put when the screen is tilted or the unit is knocked.
- Shielding. Without proper shielding the field interferes with the phone’s own sensors and with nearby cards.
- Case compatibility. Magnetic alignment works through MagSafe-compatible cases; thicker cases reduce the coupling.
Magnetic or free-position pad?
Both are sold as wireless chargers and they behave differently on the desk. A magnetic unit is faster and more forgiving of the customer, but it only helps phones that have a magnet ring or a compatible case. A free-position pad works with anything and is the safer choice for a mixed fleet — at the cost of asking the user to place the phone correctly.
| What you are choosing | Magnetic unit | Free-position pad |
|---|---|---|
| Rate stability | Repeatable — the phone snaps to the coil centre | Depends on placement every time |
| Device coverage | Phones with a magnet ring or a MagSafe-compatible case | Any Qi-compatible device |
| Use while charging | Phone can be lifted, tilted or held | Phone must be left flat on the pad |
| Best for | Retail, desk, travel and gift programmes | Mixed fleets and legacy devices |
Both can share one housing and one power stage, so a range can carry a magnetic flagship and a cheaper free-position SKU — see the manufacturing note for how that affects certification.

Magnetic platforms in production

How a magnetic wireless charger is built and checked
A magnetic charger adds a mechanical gate to the normal route — hold force and coil position are checked together, because alignment is what the product is sold on.
Material preparation and checking
The magnet array, coil, shielding, housing and cable are checked against the approved bill of materials before a board enters the line, because the magnet and the coil are specified as a pair.
First-piece quality confirmation
The first magnetic unit of a run is built and tested for hold force as well as charging rate before the line continues — a magnet that is strong enough to align the phone is also strong enough to drag a light base.
Assembly on static-protected lines
Boards are assembled on static-protected lines to a written operation sheet, with the magnet array seated and shielded at one station rather than added to a finished housing.
Visual inspection rounds
Repeat inspections check coil centre, magnet seating, shielding placement, grip on the base and the cosmetic condition of the contact face.
Aging under load and electrical testing
Every unit runs an aging cycle under load and is re-measured afterwards, so a magnetic charger that only holds its rate while cool is caught in the factory rather than on a customer’s desk.
Charging and protocol verification
Output voltage and current are measured on the coil, and the alignment behaviour is confirmed with a phone in a MagSafe-compatible case as well as without one.
QA sampling, packing and shipment inspection
Sampling runs before packing, the box and cable are checked against the approved artwork, and the batch record ties a hold-force or rate complaint back to a magnet lot and a production run.
Hold force is checked on the sample rather than assumed from the magnet drawing, because a magnet array that is strong enough to align the phone is also strong enough to drag a light base across the desk.

Magnetic wireless charger — FAQs
Does a magnetic charger need a special case?
It aligns through MagSafe-compatible cases. A thick or metal-backed case reduces the coupling and the rate, so tell us the target devices and cases and we will confirm the behaviour on a bench test before the sample is built.
Is a magnetic charger faster than a normal wireless pad?
Both can carry the same rating on paper, but the magnetic unit holds the phone in the coil centre, so the customer gets that rating instead of the reduced rate that comes from misalignment. That is the difference people describe as speed.
Will it charge an Android phone?
Magnetic alignment needs a magnet ring or a compatible case. Android phones without one can still charge on the coil but will not snap into alignment, so for mixed fleets a free-position pad is often the safer SKU.
Can the magnet be removed or weakened?
The magnet array is specified with the coil and the housing. It can be changed, but hold force and coil position are confirmed together, so it is a sample-stage decision rather than a late tweak.
What is the minimum order?
200 pcs per model for a branded magnetic unit, splittable across two colours or two holder formats. The magnet grade and the coil position are fixed at the sample stage, so changing either afterwards means a new sample rather than a new purchase order.
How fast are samples and production?
Samples ship in 2–3 days with your logo and finish applied; mass production runs 7–15 days after sample and artwork approval.
Which certifications come with a magnetic charger?
CE, RoHS, FCC, UKCA, PSE, KC, SAA and CB reports depending on the target market. The file is assembled from the first sample rather than before dispatch.
Does it interfere with cards or watches?
That is what the shielding is for. It is specified with the coil, and the behaviour is confirmed on the sample rather than assumed from the housing drawing.
Can it ship with the adapter?
Yes — on its own or bundled with a USB-C adapter and cable. Bundling changes the carton configuration, so it is quoted with the packaging.
What happens if units fail in the field?
The platform carries a 2-year warranty with a 24-hour complaint response, and batch traceability identifies the production run affected.
Do magnetic chargers really work?
Yes, and the mechanism is mechanical rather than electrical: the magnet array holds the phone in the coil centre, so the field coupling stays in the efficient range instead of drifting with placement. That is why a magnetic pad holds its rate for a whole session while a free-position pad often looks slower.
Does magnetic charging work on all phones?
It works on phones that have a magnet ring in the back or a MagSafe-compatible case. Other phones still charge on the coil but will not snap into alignment, so for a mixed fleet a free-position pad is often the safer SKU, or the magnet ring is supplied as a stick-on accessory.
What are the disadvantages of using a magnetic charger?
Two worth knowing. The magnet array adds cost and hold force that has to be balanced against base weight, and a thick case or a card holder behind the phone defeats both the alignment and the charging. Neither is a fault — both are specification decisions made before the sample.
Magnetic wireless chargers in more detail — MagSafe, Qi2 and phone compatibility Know more Know less
Magnetic wireless charging, MagSafe and Qi2
A magnetic charger holds the phone in the coil centre, so the coupling stays in the efficient range instead of depending on how carefully the phone was placed. MagSafe is Apple’s implementation of that idea and Qi2 adds the same magnetic reference to the standard, which is why Qi2 units behave consistently across brands.
The practical difference is not the peak figure on the box — it is whether the customer gets that figure on the first attempt and keeps getting it through the session.
Which phones work with a magnetic charger
Magnetic alignment needs a magnet ring. The iPhone 12 generation onwards carries one, and Android models that support Qi2 use the same reference; for anything else a MagSafe-compatible case or a stick-on ring supplies it.
Without a ring the phone still charges on the coil, but the user has to place it by hand. That is the single question worth settling before choosing between a magnetic unit and a free-position pad for a fleet.
Magnetic charger vs mobile phone charger magnets and battery packs
A magnetic wireless charger is a pad or stand that needs a power source. A magnetic battery pack is the same coil plus a cell, which makes it a travel product rather than a desk product — and it brings its own shipping and battery documentation.
Both exist in our range, and the difference in a quotation is the cell, the additional documentation and the carton configuration rather than the charging platform.
Do magnetic chargers damage a phone or a card?
The field is shielded for exactly this reason, and the shielding is specified with the coil rather than added to a finished housing. A card or a metal plate sitting between the phone and the charger is the case that causes trouble, because it interrupts the field and often the alignment as well.
That is worth stating on the packaging: no charging with a card holder attached, and a MagSafe-compatible case if alignment is expected to work.
Wholesale and branded magnetic chargers
Magnetic platforms start at 200 pcs per model, splittable across two colours or two holder formats. The magnet grade and the coil position are fixed at the sample stage, so a change afterwards means a new sample rather than a new purchase order line.
Certification is prepared per destination — CE, UKCA, FCC, PSE, KC, SAA and CB reports — and the file describes the assembly including the shielding, not just the housing.
