Corporate Gift Chargers: Programme Options, MOQ and Branding

Three corporate programmes can be built from the same charger, and the cost difference between them is a packaging and kitting difference rather than a product difference. Choosing the wrong one is how a programme ends up with an executive-quality unit in a plain brown box, or a giveaway in packaging that costs more than the product.

Corporate gift chargers: three programme options

Gift with purchase, executive gifting, and bulk corporate orders for events or staff.

The three differ in the quantity per order, the packaging expectation, the branding depth and the delivery pattern. A platform product can serve all three, which is why the programme decision comes before the product decision rather than after it.

Each option has a different binding constraint on the minimum quantity: packaging for the first, kitting for the second, and the delivery schedule for the third.

Option 1: gift with purchase

A large quantity, one configuration and a short window.

The unit is bundled with a purchase and carries relatively light branding: a logo, one colour and a simple carton or sleeve. Quantities are high, the configuration is fixed, and the schedule is tied to a promotional window rather than to a retail season. The binding constraint is usually the print run and the packing labour, not the product itself.

Option 2: executive gifting

Low quantity, high expectation, and the packaging carries the message.

This option uses a smaller number of units with a premium finish, a rigid or magnetic-closure box, an insert that holds the accessory, and often a printed card. The unit price is a small part of the total, and the kitting labour is a real cost, because each box is assembled and checked by hand. The binding constraint is the packaging order, which is often well above the unit quantity.

Option 3: bulk corporate orders

One configuration, many destinations, and a schedule that has to hold.

Orders for events, staff or channel partners are usually a single configuration in a moderate quantity, delivered either to one address or split across several. The branding is light and the packaging is a printed carton; the complications are the split delivery, the deadline and the fact that the order often arrives with a short lead time. The binding constraint is the schedule rather than the cost.

Option Quantity Packaging expectation Binding constraint Branding depth
Gift with purchase High Printed carton or sleeve The print run and packing labour Logo and one colour
Executive gifting Low Rigid box with an insert The packaging order quantity Finish, colour and print
Bulk corporate Moderate Standard printed carton The schedule Logo on the unit and carton

What the branding layers cost

Four layers, and each is priced separately.

A mark on the unit, applied by print, laser or label; a colour or finish on the housing; print on the carton or sleeve; and any insert, card or accessory. The first layer is inexpensive and the second is where the tooling or the minimum quantity appears. Where a premium finish is requested, the cost of the finish and its minimum quantity often exceed the difference in the product itself.

What the programme has to fix before the order

Five items, and each affects the price or the date.

The configuration and the quantity; the artwork and the mark method; the packaging type and the number of language versions; the kitting and whether accessories are included; and the delivery pattern, which decides whether the order ships to one address or several. Fixing the five before the order is what keeps a promotional window from becoming a schedule negotiation.

How the three options interact with lead time

Three drivers, and the packaging is usually the longest.

The unit on a platform is fast; the print run starts when the artwork is approved; and the kitting adds labour that scales with the quantity. A programme that approves artwork late has shortened the print window rather than the product window, which is why the artwork approval date belongs in the plan for every corporate programme.

How the programme options compare

The three options differ in how much of the product carries the brand. A large low-cost giveaway usually carries it on the carton, an executive gift carries it on the product and the pack, and a kitted programme carries it across several items in one box.

The cost follows the depth of the branding. A printed carton is a fixed set-up, a custom colour adds a finishing minimum, and a kitted programme adds assembly and a second pack specification.

The schedule follows the same order, which is why the option is chosen with the quantity rather than after it.

FAQ

What drives the minimum order for a corporate gift charger?

Usually the packaging: the print run for a carton or the order quantity for a rigid box. The product itself can often open at a lower quantity where it uses an existing platform. The product can open lower where it uses an existing platform, so the packaging often sets the minimum rather than the unit. Ask which of the two sets the quantity.

Can the same product serve all three programme options?

It can, with different packaging and branding depth. The platform, the ports and the certification stay the same, and the programme difference appears in the carton, the finish and the kitting. The platform, the ports and the certification stay the same, and the difference appears in the carton, the finish and the kitting. The branding depth is the variable, not the platform.

Is a custom colour worth it for a giveaway?

It depends on the quantity: a custom colour carries its own minimum and adds a finishing step, which is rarely justified for a large, low-cost giveaway and often justified for an executive gift. A custom colour is rarely justified for a large giveaway and often justified for an executive gift, because the quantity spread is different. Compare the two on the quantity spread.

How should the delivery be planned?

State whether the order ships to one address or several, and whether any destination needs its own carton markings. Split delivery changes the freight and the packing labour, and it affects the schedule more than the price. Split delivery changes the freight and the packing labour, and it affects the schedule more than the price. State the destinations in the order.
