How do we keep magnetic chargers free of metal debris?
Magnets attract small metal particles that can scratch phones and interfere with charging. Store chargers covered, check the surface before use, and remove debris with tape or a dry cloth after unplugging.

Users of our magnetic wireless chargers find tiny metal flakes stuck to the surface, and one said it scratched their phone. How should these chargers be cleaned and stored?
Short answer: Unplug the charger, then lift the particles with a piece of sticky tape or wipe with a dry microfibre cloth. Don’t scrape with metal tools. Store the charger covered or in its box, away from tool benches, keys and coins. Check the surface before attaching a phone, because metal on a wireless charger can heat up and interfere with charging.
Why debris collects
Magnetic alignment rings attract small ferrous particles from bags, pockets, workshops and desks. They are often too small to see until they scratch a phone or case.
Safe cleaning
- Unplug the charger.
- Press a piece of tape gently onto the surface and lift it away; repeat.
- Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth.
- For stubborn marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully.
Avoid metal tweezers, knives, or abrasive pads that can scratch the surface.
Why it matters for charging
Metal objects between a wireless charger and phone can absorb energy and heat up. Qi chargers include foreign-object detection that typically reduces or stops power when it detects metal, which users see as slow or stopped charging. Removing debris restores normal operation and avoids hot spots.
Storage
- Keep it in the box or a pouch when not in use, especially when travelling.
- Store away from tool benches, screws and loose change.
- Don’t store several magnetic chargers stacked face to face; they snap together and can scratch.
- Keep away from cards with magnetic stripes.
Cases and accessories
Use cases designed for magnetic charging. Magnetic ring adapters from other brands can also carry debris. Metal plates, ring holders and card wallets placed between phone and charger block charging or trigger foreign-object detection and should be removed.
Workshops and industrial sites
In workshops and factories, metal dust is common. Use a covered or enclosed charger position, clean the surface daily, and consider wired charging where dust is heavy.
Warehouse and retail
Display models in shops pick up debris quickly. Add a tape-clean to the daily display check. In the warehouse, keep magnetic chargers boxed until they ship.
What we don’t know
Wecent’s pages don’t specify surface hardness or coating details. Confirm with Wecent before claiming scratch resistance.
Where this answer says confirm with Wecent, the detail is not published on the product page and has to come from the datasheet or the factory. General facts come from the standards bodies, regulators or device makers named in the text.
