China remains the centre of charger manufacturing for a simple reason: the component base, the tooling shops and the engineering talent sit in the same region. The difficulty for a buyer is not finding a supplier but qualifying one, and the qualification looks the same whether the factory is in Shenzhen, Dongguan or elsewhere in the Pearl River Delta.

This guide is part of our Charger Factory & Production. Read the full topic guide for the decisions that come before and after this step.

China Charger Manufacturer: what the country advantage actually is

The advantage is the supply chain density: controllers, switches, magnetics, connectors, moulds and packaging are all available within a short distance, which shortens both development and recovery from a component problem. The risk is that the same density makes it easy to present a catalogue without owning a process. The qualification therefore focuses on what the factory controls on its own site.

Platform options and product range

Ask which wattage tiers the factory builds on shared platforms and which require new tooling. A supplier who can offer 20W-45W, 65W-100W and 140W-240W tiers from a small number of certified platforms allows a brand to extend its range without a new development cycle. Where each SKU is presented as an independent model, expect a tooling charge and a longer schedule for every addition.

Higher-wattage tiers are usually built on their own platform family.

Capacity planning and peak season

Capacity is allocated in blocks, and those blocks fill ahead of retail build seasons. A platform order can often be placed in a quiet window with a short lead time; a new enclosure with tooling and certification cannot be compressed into the same window regardless of quantity. The useful question is which milestone converts an enquiry into planned production, and what that milestone requires from you.

MOQ, tooling and the branded entry point

Tooling drives the minimum order. On a platform-based model, a branded run can open at 200 pieces per model because the mould and the safety-critical design already exist. A new enclosure carries tooling, sample loops and its own certification work, which raises the economic minimum. A quotation that does not state which of the two it is cannot be compared with another.

Decision Platform route New form route
Opening quantity From 200 pcs per model Set by tooling economics
Certification Existing reports, updated documentation New test programme
Schedule driver Production slot Design freeze and tooling loops
Range extension New configuration on same platform New tooling per variant

Certification groundwork by market

Chinese manufacturers prepare documentation for the markets their customers sell into, but certification belongs to the product and the market, not to the factory’s reputation. Ask which reports exist, whether they name the model being quoted, and what changes when your brand and model designation are applied. Wecent Group prepares certification groundwork for CE, FCC, RoHS, PSE and KC and confirms current status per model before an order.

Quality gates and traceability

A five-gate structure covering incoming materials, in-process checks, electrical test, aging under load and outgoing sampling gives a buyer traceable evidence for each batch. Ask to see a batch record and to trace a carton back to its component lots. The traceability exercise is the fastest way to distinguish a factory from a trading company.

Commercial terms and payment

State the Incoterm, payment terms and required shipment date in the RFQ. The quotation should separate tooling from the unit price, name the included accessories and packaging, and state the MOQ and the lead time from order confirmation. Where a supplier is reluctant to separate tooling from unit price, ask how the tooling is recovered across the quantity.

Working with a Shenzhen factory

Wecent Group manufactures in Bao’an, Shenzhen, with engineering, pilot builds and volume production on the same site, and supports factory visits, video walkthroughs and third-party audits. For buyers who cannot travel, a live walkthrough plus a real-time batch-record exercise gives most of the value of a visit.

How to verify documentation from a Chinese supplier

Documentation should be checked against the product, not against a folder. Confirm that the certificate names the model being quoted, that the standard and the market are stated, and that the issuing body is identifiable. For material declarations, check that RoHS and REACH statements reference the parts supplied rather than the company in general. Where a document is undated or covers a different model, ask for the correct version before the order rather than after a customs query. This single step removes most of the compliance risk in a cross-border purchase.

Lead time and production slots in practice

Lead time is set by the point in the factory calendar where the order lands, not by the production time alone. Retail build seasons fill the lines weeks ahead, and a platform order that could start in two weeks in a quiet month may wait considerably longer in a peak month. Ask two questions: which milestone converts an enquiry into planned production, and what the current queue looks like for the platform you are buying. The answers allow a launch date to be planned against the calendar rather than against hope.

FAQ

How is documentation from a Chinese supplier verified?

By asking for the document rather than a summary of it, and by checking the issuing body, the scope and the date against the product being quoted. A certificate that covers a different configuration is evidence of a different product. Ask for the document rather than a summary of it, and check the issuing body, the scope and the date against the product being quoted.

What does peak season do to lead time?

It compresses the available production slots and lengthens the component lead times at the same time. A programme launching into peak season books the slot earlier and holds more buffer than the standard lead time suggests. Peak season compresses the available production slots and lengthens the component lead times at the same time, so the slot is booked earlier and more buffer is held.

What should a first order from China include?

A frozen specification, the tooling position in writing, the inspection arrangement, the payment structure and the documents that travel with the shipment. Each of those is cheaper to settle before the order than after it. Settle the frozen specification, the tooling position in writing, the inspection arrangement, the payment structure and the shipping documents before the order rather than after it.

How is a Shenzhen factory visit planned?

Around what has to be seen rather than around availability: the SMT line running, the test stations, the aging racks and the warehouse. A visit that sees only a meeting room confirms nothing about production. Plan the visit around what has to be seen rather than around availability: the SMT line running, the test stations, the aging racks and the warehouse.
